One of the most storied and legendary cars in Porsche’s catalog is the Porsche 911. The 911 was first manufactured in 1963, meaning 2013 was the 50 year anniversary of the car’s production. This two door sports car has managed to outlive nearly every other automobile in the history of the industry for a number of reasons.

Porsche 911 GT3 overview

Perhaps, the most important of these is the beautiful simplicity of the car. While it has undergone several evolutions to become the vehicle it is today, very little has changed in terms of the overall design of the car.

Porsche 911: Automotive Icon

Porsche has made a name for itself over the years as one of the most consistently impressive auto manufacturers in Germany (and, therefore, on the planet). Along with the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche has become an icon of the automotive industry, and for good reason. With cars like the 911 in their arsenal, it is difficult to question the status of Porsche as one of the premier carmakers around.

Simply put, the Porsche 911 is an automotive icon. To tinker with it too much would be unwise, and the folks at Porsche know this. While plenty of advancements have been made in terms of the mechanics of the vehicle's engine and internal performance, these aspects of the vehicle were only updated to keep the car cutting edge in an ever advancing industry. For instance, water cooled engines were added to the vehicle to enhance its performance capabilities. Other than some basic enhancements, however, this vehicle is a living legend that is true to its past incarnations while still being among the highest performing cars available today.

Porsche 911 GT3: Performance and Style

The Porsche 911 GT3 is the highest performing version of the 911 series currently in production. With a top speed of 195 miles per hour and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds, this car is just about as fast as they come. The car is capable of producing a formidable 475 horsepower at 8,250 rpm. At the same rpm, the GT3 has 325 ft-lbs of torque. The car is capable of achieving such impressive performance statistics for a plethora of reasons, with the major one being, of course, the engine.

The Porsche 911 GT3 sports a 3.6 liter, six cylinder (with four valves per cylinder), water cooled engine made by Porsche. This is not to completely overshadow the car’s PDK transmission with a 7 speed dual clutch manual gearbox. Between the Porsche 911 GT3's engine, transmission, weight distribution and expertly designed chassis, the car is about as efficient as a sports car can get. The GT3 will cost you a cool $130,400 at base price, but for a car this luxurious and high performing, that seems rather appropriate.
